We have already mentioned works of art spread along the line of the new Tramway (streetcar) of Nice (see articles of 3 and of January 18th, 2008).

It is impossible not
to evoke the work of the artist Ben.

Ben, (Benjamin Vautier), is a French artist withSwiss origin, born in 1935 in Italy.
Living in Nice since 1949, strongly implanted in the local artistic life, Ben joins on the scene of the creation of Nice and national from the end of the 50s: in essential actor of Fluxus from 1962, in theorist observer of the different movements of the conte
mporary art which he contributes to present, in commentator of our society.

He becomes k
nown for the general public from 90s, through his white "writings" on black bottom declined under diverse forms.

The word, the thought, the slogan and the writing are the base of its work. The writing Ben became his mark of factory and recognition.

" The Red thread " during the route of the tramway, its calligraphy of the names of stations and his writings of thoughts are present in each of 42 stations.

From the 70s, the exhibitions of Ben multiply in Europe, in particular in Switzerland, in Germany and in England.

Some of his works belong to the permanent collection of the museum of modern art an
d contemporary art ( MAMAC) of Nice, especially an installation, " La cambra de Ben ".
